The Intimidating Lobster

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It a great day to remind the people in your life that you love them. I believe in the importance of telling someone you love them whether it is a friend, family member, partner, or someone else. You never know when people need to hear that you care about them the most. Anyways, the key to my heart is always food. So if you want to impress your special valentine with food, here is recipe of butterflied lobster. Buying a fresh lobster can be incredibly intimidating, but does not take an expert chef to cook. There are many ways to cook lobster: boiled, broiled, barbaqued, and many more. This time I stepped it up a notch and butterflied my lobster first and then broiled it. It turned out just like you see on TV and you can do it too at home! I started with watching internet videos showing how to butterfly lobster tails. Butterfly means taking the meat outside the tail while it is raw and placing it on top of the shell to cook. Although it was time consuming, it turned out beautifully! I know lobster can be intimidating, but with the simple instructions you too can pretend you are an expert chef. Don’t forget to remind everyone they are loved today and every day!

Hint: The secret to amazing lobster is an amazing sauce! This piece of meat will absorb any flavor you add to it. Of course, my boyfriend and I prefer garlic!

Ingredients:

2 Lobster tails

2 (or more) garlic cloves, pressed or minced

1/4 tsp sea salt

1/8 tsp pepper

1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil

1 1/2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

3 Tbsp unsalted butter, divided

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to broil on high heat.
  2. Follow instruction to remove lobster meat from tail to create a butterflied lobster.
  3. Melt 1 Tbps butter in a sauce pan. Add pressed garlic cloves, salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive oil. Stir until combined and remove from heat.
  4. Place each lobster tail in an oven safe dish. Divide the butter sauce and pour over the butterflied meat. Top each lobster tail with 1 Tbsp of butter. Cut tablespoon in half and lay longwise down the tail.
  5. Place in oven and broil 10-11 minutes until meat is white and opaque. Cooking times will vary depending on the size of the lobster tail. Meat should register at 145 degrees.
  6. Remove lobster tails from oven when fully cooked and serve!

Tip: I melt more butter in a small pan for people to add butter as wanted. A good way to make the melted butter more flavorful is to add the drippings from the bottom of the pan after the lobsters are cooked.
